WELL PROJECT -- AMAZING!!!!

We bought a well!!!

And are 2/3 of the way toward a second one!

For many years we have supported Church World Service by sending money to purchase chickens, tools and blankets, but this year, we are challenging ourselves to raise $5,000 to give the gift of water to an entire village in Africa! We are a small but giving congregation (about 40 weekly attendance). We believe in being good stewards and take our commitment to our church family, our neighbors, our environment and our apportionments seriously. Our weekly offering is tithed 25% to American Baptist Missions and goes to help missionaries and people worldwide. This fundraiser is over and above our aforementioned 25% tithe to worldwide missions.

Most of us take water for granted, but for a billion people around the world, water that is safe and accessible remains a frustrating mirage. The result: disease, diminished food production, and a crushing daily burden, usually borne by women and children, to find water.

Wells, which reach deep into the aquifer, are the most popular way to access clean, safe water. When periods of drought hit, communities with deep water wells are able to continue growing vegetable gardens, lessening the drought’s impact on local food supplies. The gift of fresh water is a gift of life!

UPDATE: As of May 2nd we have raised $7957 toward our $10,000 goal.
An email was sent out to various groups (restauranteurs, authors, political, celebrity) asking
for recipe donations in hopes it would encourage participation and ultimately sales of the cookbook.
